Converse begins back in 1908, making rubber for shoes and specializing in galoshes. Quickly after, they utilized their rubber to make sneakers. In the 20s they gave their basketball sneaker the name "All Star." Since then the name has been widely accepted and the masses gravitated to the shoe for it's appearance off the court. It shows up in almost every scene, from skateboarding to hip-hop and punk bands. They are one of the biggest fashion statements in the shoe industry. Every closet in the US should have a pair of All Stars.
